Our Story

Established in 1970 by Nick Castronova, the Lamplighter quickly became a Rochester favorite. Continental cuisine highlighted by Italian specialties make that romantic dinner for two or party for fifty an event you won't soon forget. 

In July of 2015, long time employee Lisa Seifert purchased the restaurant from Castronova. After making some cosmetic changes, bringing the décor up to date while still keeping the warm and cozy feel, Lisa reintroduced the restaurant as her own.

In February of 2019, the Lamplighter happily announced Michael Seifert as their new Executive Chef. Michael has over 18 years of culinary experience and was previously the Sous Chef and Executive Chef at Branca in Bushnell’s Basin.

 

Michael’s passion for cooking started at a young age while in the kitchen making homemade pasta with his father and grandmother, and he inherited his passion for the restaurant business from his mother, Lisa. Michael believes in using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible and giving customers the “this is the best I’ve ever had!” experience.

Previous Executive Chef, William (Elliott) Rodwell, who has been with the Lamplighter for over 30 years, now has a part-time role in the kitchen alongside Michael, and the two make a great team!


Together, Michael and Elliott are committed to maintaining the culinary excellence you’ve come to love and expect from the Lamplighter for over 50 years.
